I would suggest trying one of the following. Laptop still turns off and my old bloated battery when plugged in has 90 charge. Ensure that all latches and other attachment devices that hold your battery in place are released.

It is nothing to just put the charger on the device and let it charge up that battery giving it a fresh new charge. Batteries today dont have a memory you need to calibrate routinely like the old Ni-Cad batteries used on devices several years ago. After placing the new battery in the battery tray secure it with the hold-down or clamping device. Do you have to reset computer after changing battery.
